Peru
Metropolitan Lima has an area of 1031 square miles of which 318 square miles (31%) comprises the actual city. The urban area extends around 37 miles from north to south and around 19 miles from east to west. The city is the core of the Lima Metropolitan area, one of the ten largest metropolitan areas in the Americas. Lima is the second largest city in the world located in a desert, after Cairo, Eqypt.
The city slopes gently from the shores of the Pacific Ocean into valleys and mountain slopes located as high as 1,600 feet above sea level. The climate is quite mild, despite being located in the tropics. Relative humidity is always very high particulary in the mornings, and produces brief morning fog from June to December and persistent low clouds from May to November.
With a population of 8.5 million in the metropolitan area, Lima ranks as the 27th most populous city in the world. Its population features a very complex mix of racial and ethnic groups. Roman Catholicism is the main religon.
Bethel’s missionary to Peru is located in Lima. Preaching points are being developed wherever people are open and the Lord leads. There are new opportunities opening in Northern Peru.
