Our Story
Bethel was organized October 11, 1954 after a two week evangelistic tent meeting by Rogers Store led by Brothers R. E. Rogers and A. W. Smith.
W. B. Armstrong, C. F. Smith, A. W. & Mrs. Virginia, Helen and Alton Smith, Mr. & Mrs. Clifford Smith, Mr. & Mrs. Ira Felts, Mrs. Mozelle Thornton, and Mrs. Willie Jennings were the 13 charter members. A. W. Smith was called as the first pastor.
After meeting in the tent for some time, services were held in the community voting house. Later Mrs. Nora Burk gave an acre of land on which a frame meeting house was built mostly from material taken from a house bought and dismantled in Henderson. It is now the East wing of the Educational building. Four classrooms and two restrooms were added in 1972. A new auditorium was added in 1974, and in 1978 the fellowship hall was completed.
Pastors in the order of their service for the church are A. W. Smith, W. W. Robinson, G. P. Ehl, James R. Taylor, Joe D. Lindsey, G. P. Ehl, Roy W. Culley, and our current Pastor, James L. Williams.
